Wanting to use local craftspeople to create furniture for our home, we commissioned John P Johnston – Furniture to design and create an extensive area of bookcases in American Fine Oak. We have not been disappointed. They have a grace and proportionality that is impossible to source from in-store unit suppliers. His Television cabinet fitted the corner that we chose in a way that no commercially produced unit could have done. Finely crafted in Scottish Oak it quietly radiates quality and fine design.

We originally bought a coffee table by John and were so impressed with the quality that we then gave him the commission to design and build a TV/HiFi unit for our living room and subsequently a record cabinet to compliment it. We first heard about John from a radio programme 20 years ago that featured the Wood School, Jedburgh where he was based at that time. We commissioned some oak furniture and we were extremely pleased with the high quality design and finish, he even delivered the units personally. Since then we have moved to Scotland, bringing his pieces back home and now proudly displayed in our guest bedroom. In addition we commissioned him to design a Charles Macintosh bedroom design for our master bedroom suite incorporating headboard, chest of drawers, mirror and wardrobes all inlaid with glass. He also designed and fitted an arts and crafts inspired kitchen with carved units.
John is incredibly talented he works closely with his clients to create designs that bring their vision to life and uses his immense skills to deliver furniture pieces that are works of art whilst still functional and practical. We are about to discuss another commission for our TV room and we know his design skills will be invaluable.

We had a problem with our bedroom furniture. We had very nice oak drawer units, bedside tables, dressing table etc. One thing we couldn’t find anywhere was an oak wardrobe that would fit the only space in the bedroom that we had available. We called in John and explained our problem. Now a non problem because John designed and build a wardrobe precisely fitting the space. It was made in the same style as all our other furniture from oak of exactly the same colour. John even sourced the exact same handles. I’d defy anyone to be able to tell the difference. A great job and a lovely piece of furniture that will last for generations!
Our garage was a bit of a mess to be honest. A range of non-uniform shelving, boiler, power meters, pipes, lIght switches etc. Things and stuff rammed in any old how. We asked John to make us a set of cupboards to maximise the storage space so we could be a lot more organised. John went off to design and make the cupboards and doors to best suit the space and installed a superb set of cupboards. Even though this was essentially functional space the finish that John applied was tremendous. We got very nice beechwood doors, stylish fittings and a luxurious counter top. So pleased with the work and the skill and care taken. John is a top notch craftsman.

We are both very happy with our dining table and chairs that John custom made for us. They are a focal point in our home and we get many compliments on them, We especially liked that John came along with a model of how they would look. The chairs are also very comfortable.
