The brief for this commission was simple: it had to sit 3 adults, be strong and robust, and be made from a suitable hardwood that would last outside. We first used a bench design from back in 2011, so the next step was to select the timber, which proved to be difficult. Thanks to social media, however, we managed to source some Iroko (African Teak), which is a good waxy timber for exterior use. One of the features of the design is the angled/wedged back slats, which produces an aesthetically pleasing negative space.
