This kitchen refurb started back in November 2018, with the arrival of 12 Sycamore and Ash logs from Dunbar Community Woodland (DCW), ending up outside the workshop. These were converted into boards by our good friend Keith Threadgale using his Woodmizer; I drove the forklift, and sweeping sawdust and labour was provided by volunteers from DCW.
The stacked boards were then left to air dry for over 24 months. We then selected one log of Ash and one of Sycamore in January 2020, which were then transported to Angus & Mack’s to be kiln dried. After nearly 3 months we received the logs back.
We then started to work on the kitchen; we had a few new cupboards to make, one which would contain a waste disposal basket and also house recycling boxes. We also made a couple of drawers for where the old oven came out. All carcasses were produced from 18mm MDF; all the doors and drawer fronts were made as framed panels from the Ash; and the two new worktops were made from Sycamore, with the waney edge left at the front. We had the handles turned by a friend, Glen Macaulay.
